Regarding the information concerning the citizenship status of Roman Ihnatov, the head of the High Qualification Commission of Judges (HQCJ)

Today, on December 21, “Dzerkalo Tyzhnia” published a letter from the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine addressed to the HQCJ. The letter discusses the outcome of the citizenship verification for Roman Ihnatov and highlights the alignment of his information with data obtained from Russian databases.

Clearly, the situation where a Ukrainian public servant holds citizenship in an aggressor country is deemed unacceptable. Such circumstances should result in dismissal from the position and the forfeiture of Ukrainian citizenship. Nevertheless, there are numerous contradictions in the current situation that require thorough investigation.

The DEJURE Foundation expresses gratitude to the High Qualification Commission of Judges for promptly addressing public concerns and extending an invitation to members of the public to participate in the commission’s efforts to verify these circumstances. The NGOs involved in the establishment of the Public Integrity Council will discuss and decide on the delegation of representatives to this commission.

DEJURE will keep you informed of the progress.
