The High Qualification Commission of Judges elects a new head – Andriy Pasichnyk, but fails to elect a deputy head

August 8, 2024 update:

On August 8, the High Qualification Commission of Judges (HQCJ) elected Oleksiy Omelyan, a judge of the Commercial Court of Zhytomyr Region, as deputy head. Omelyan previously served in the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine and worked as an assistant to a Supreme Court judge, as well as a disciplinary inspector for the HQCJ.

On August 7, the HQCJ finally elected its new head – Andriy Pasichnyk, an attorney and PhD in Law. He previously worked at the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP).

Pasichnyk received nine votes, while his opponent, Vitaliy Hatseliuk, garnered six votes.

Unfortunately, the Commission was unable to elect a deputy head, despite four attempts. The candidates for the position included HQCJ members Omelian, Chumak, and Bohonis.

DEJURE Foundation congratulates the HQCJ on the election of the new head and looks forward to another attempt to elect a deputy head tomorrow. We will continue to monitor the Commission’s work and draw conclusions based on its performance.

The previous head, Roman Ihnatov, resigned from his position at the end of March.
