Unqualified: Constitutional Court candidates fail to demonstrate adequate legal knowledge

None of the three candidates for the position of Constitutional Court judge, nominated under the quota of the Congress of Judges, passed the competency evaluation in legal expertise. During the December 6 meeting, the Advisory Group of Experts determined that Nataliya Denysenko, Vladyslav Kostenko, and Oksana Soldatenko did not meet the required criteria.

Once again, candidates endorsed by the Council of Judges failed to fill the vacant positions, so the selection process was unsuccessful. On December 9, the Council announced a new competition for two vacant Constitutional Court judge positions, which we hope will yield better results.

Currently, four seats on the Constitutional Court remain vacant, and three more will become vacant in January 2025. If at least one new judge is not appointed by the end of January 2025, the Court’s operations will be paralyzed. DEJURE Foundation urges qualified and decent candidates to participate in this critical competition to ensure the Court can resume its full and effective functionality as soon as possible.
