Ukraine undertakes to continue judicial reform in accordance with international practices – from Zelensky’s official visit to the United States
In particular, the joint statement after the meeting of the Presidents of Ukraine and the United States states that Ukraine will continue to implement judicial reform on the basis of adopted legislation (probably the laws on the HCJ reform and the reboot of the HQCJ, that were adopted this summer) in line with international best practice.
The President of Ukraine assured his American partners that Ukraine will continue to uphold common democratic values with the United States and is interested in bringing the strategic partnership to a qualitatively new level.
“We welcome the recognition of judicial reform in Ukraine as a №1 priority, as well as the readiness to implement it in accordance with the best international practices. Ukrainian society has been waiting for this for the 30 years of independence. We also welcome the initiative to develop a comprehensive Transformation Plan, as well as the resumption of work of the US-Ukraine Strategic Partnership Commission. I believe that these tools will be useful for promoting real reforms. The DEJURE Foundation is ready to do its utmost to promote effective judicial reform.”

Earlier, on August 2, the President launched a long-awaited judicial reform, that was resisted by the judges of low integrity. According to DEJURE experts, the Ethics Council for HCJ reform and the Selection Commission for the reboot of the HQCJ will start working in early October this year. The composition of HQCJ and HCJ can be updated in a year.
