The Parliament plans to appoint two more CCU judges beyond a competition

Tomorrow, the Parliament will consider the appointment of judges to the CCU, – said Mykhailo Zhernakov, Chair of the Board of the DEJURE Foundation on Facebook.

“Without a competition, as required by the Constitution. Without any verification of whether the candidates are really “lawyers with a recognized level of competence” and have “high moral qualities”, as required by the Constitution,”

Candidates for the position of CCU judges are invited to a session of the Verkhovna Rada, which will be held on November 6, where the appointment of a CCU judge will be considered, – states Head of the Legal Committee Andriy Kostin in his letter to candidates. 

One of the reasons for the scandalous decision of the Constitutional Court on e-declaration is the procedure of forming its composition. Despite the constitutional requirement, CCU judges are appointed bypassing the competition procedure and without any integrity check.

Despite the constitutional crisis, MPs decided to bypass the competition procedure and appoint judges on the basis of loyalty to Parliamentary factions, rather than professionalism.

We want to remind that the public calls for a change in the procedure for selecting judges of the CCU, i.e. to introduce a transparent competition for the positions and to check the integrity of judges as it is outlined in the Judicial Reform Map.
