The Government approved an action plan that includes institutional delineation of legal education and law enforcement training
Recently, on August 23, the Government approved an action plan aimed at implementing the Comprehensive Strategic Plan for the Reform of Law Enforcement Bodies as part of Ukraine’s security and defence sector for 2023–2027.
What does this action plan entail for legal education?
It acknowledges the need to delineate legal education and law enforcement training and, accordingly, develop and submit a relevant draft law to the Verkhovna Rada. The delineation is expected to be based on an audit of legal education in specialised institutions subordinated to law enforcement agencies and will be completed by 2027.
The requirement of delineation is outlined in the European Commission’s Report on Ukraine, which was released in November 2023.
DEJURE Foundation experts also contributed to the development of the relevant provisions in the Plan and constantly analyse the legal education in the law enforcement bodies’ institutions.
The Working Group on Legal Education Reform, established in December 2023, is actively working on various mechanisms of delineation. We anticipate that the Working Group’s efforts will yield results and lead to a successful reform of legal education!
