DEJURE Foundation on the Public Integrity Council’s decision to expel one of its members
Today, it became known that the Public Integrity Council (PIC) had decided to expel Serhii Fesenko from its membership. The decision was based on substantiated concerns regarding his academic integrity in the process of writing his dissertation.
We believe that adherence to the principles of integrity is fundamental both to the selection of judges and to the work of the PIC itself. Serhii Fesenko was delegated to the PIC by the DEJURE Foundation. At the time, we had no information that would have cast doubt on his compliance with integrity standards.
At the same time, the DEJURE Foundation, in cooperation with the current composition of the PIC and other organisations, is working on improving the mechanisms for delegating representatives to the PIC.
We believe that the timely response of the Public Integrity Council to circumstances related to one of its members demonstrates consistency in adhering to its own principles.
The DEJURE Foundation will continue to support the PIC in its activities and in upholding integrity standards.
